CAFE DE COLOMBIA is the first non-EU product to receive the PGI recognition in the 27 members of the EU.
There is an enormous range of great foods available in Europe, however, when a product acquires a reputation
extending beyond national borders it can face unfair competition practices from other products which claim to be the
genuine article by taking the same name, discouraging not only producers but also misleading consumers.

That is why, in 1992, the European Union created a system known as PGI (Protected Geographical Indication)
to promote and protect foods produced, processed or prepared in a specific country or region.

Café de Colombia is acknowledged within the 27 European Union Members as the highest quality coffee since Sept.
27th, 2007. The distinctive properties of Colombian Coffee are uniquely associated to the geographical, topographical
and agroclimatic conditions under which it is carefully grown.

Cafe Los Andes, a Colombian Specialty Coffee available in Central and Eastern Europe, has recently joined
the 100% Colombian Coffee program, which is known as the earliest form of present Fair Trade organizations.

By formalizing their commitment to up-holding the good name and quality of Colombian Coffee in the continent,
Café Los Andes is one of the few existing authentic Colombian Brands that will benefit from the Colombian Coffee PGI,
bearing the Cafe de Colombia Logo in its packaging and thus, ratifying visibility and traceability of the product in order
to ensure tangible improvements in the lifestyles of Colombian coffee farmers.
